A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential aspirant, Dr. Nwachukwu Anthony Anakwenze, has said that only rotation or zoning of presidential power remains the only means to rebalance the country before the next general elections so that universal adult suffrage can make sense.
Addressing the media in Lagos, Anakwenze, explained that the basis of any viable democracy especially in a diverse and complex country such as Nigeria, rests in fair and even sharing of power.
“Our position is that since the Northern part of the country would have fully enjoyed the office of the president for the full statutory 8 years by 2023 , presidential power ought to be yielded to the south and south east zone in particular in the spirit of unity and equity.
He therefore urged presidential aspirants from the north to as a matter of urgency join and support aspirant from south east geopolitical zone.
“In the 23 years of this democratic dispensation, the south west has produced President Olusegun Obasanjo, who served for eight years as well as a Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo who is currently serving out his eight year tenure, while the south-south zone has produced President Goodluck Jonathan who served for five years.
He reminded the political class that the only zone in the south which has not yet had chance to produce a president of Nigeria is the south east, adding that in the spirit of justice, equity and fairness and inclusiveness, all of which are critical ingredients in our ambition to build a Nigerian nation, the south east should be given the chance and supported by all fair-minded and patriotic Nigerians to produce Nigeria’s president in 2023 through the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
He further added that patriotic Nigerians at home and abroad who understand the fundamental issues in 2023 presidency, understand also the historic imperative of zoning the presidency to the south east , the last zone and only the zone left out in southern Nigeria in the first round of the presidency across the country.
