The Anambra State Police has blamed a multiple motor accident at C-Pharm Ukpo,along Enugu Onitsha Expressway in Dunukofia LGA of the State to loss of control by a tipper driver.
According to SP Haruna Mohammed PPRO Anambra State Police Command, the accident involved a 911 Tipper with Registration number AWK 922 XJ,a Honda CRV SUV car with Registration number GCE 309 FK driven by one Onwouke Chuka Franklin ‘m’ aged 34 years attached to Ministry of Health Awka and a Tanker laden with premium motor spirits (PMS).
The accident occurred when the tipper lost control and had a head on collision with the Honda CRV while the Tanker in a bid to avoid hitting the CRV from the rear swaved and crashed by the road side.
Police patrol teams led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police incharge of operations DCP Abdulaziz Obansa and other Sister agencies including the Military, Federal Road Safety Corps, DSS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, visited the scene,cordoned off the Area to avert disaster and rushed casualties who sustain varying degrees of injuries to Chira hospital for treatment.
However, the Honda CRV Driver one Onwouke Chuka Franklin was confirmed dead on arrival by the Medical Doctor while three other victims who are yet to be identified are responding to treatment. Corpse deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, Police said.
Meanwhile, the fire Service department who also responded to the distress call spread chemicals on the tanker in order to avert fire outbreak.
Consequently, the premium motor spirit (petrol)was successfully transloaded to another truck by NUPENG officials and obstructions cleared to enable free flow of traffic in the Area.
The Commissioner of Police CP John B.Abang,sympathized with the victims and ordered for a discreet investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident please.
