Efforts are currently on to get to the root of the shooting of a native of Alor Community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State by yet an unidentified shooter claimed to be targetting a cow.
The Anambra Progressive Movement (APM), has however supported the position taken by the Directorate of State Security (DSS), in the alleged shooting.
The Anambra Progressive Movement in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka by its president General, Chief Obinna Okonkwo said they believe the version of DSS, since there is no overwhelming evidence that the shooting was carried out by a DSS staff.
A report by a national daily had alleged that a of staff DSS on December 25, 2019, had shot an Alor native in the community , while targetting an escaping cow.
But DSS in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abuja, Dr.Peter Afunanya, categorically denied the involvement of its staff in the shooting.
He said in the statement that arms handling in the Service was guided by strict control procedures and measures such that none of its staff could have used his/her assigned gun to shoot an innocent native or escaping cow.
“The Service is professional and will remain so in the discharge of its duties. It is committed to the maintainance of peace and public safety across the country during and after the yuletide season” he said.
Although the Anambra State Police Command, said it was still carrying out the investigation to know the killer, DSS said their investigation showed that it was a vigilante operative who did the shooting.
The group then while believing the version of DSS, urged the Police to hasten their investigation and make the report available in a well attended press conference to clear hazy areas.
The Progressive Movement said DSS is a very meticulous and thorough organisation, which brings its characteristics to bear on its personnel.
The group praised the new DSS Command Anambra State for his professionalism and expertise especially in human relations to and commitment to members of Anambra citizens in securing lives and properties throughout the state.
