Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed nine terrorists, including two notorious kingpins, during high-stakes operations in Zamfara and Katsina States.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division, the troops also recovered several AK-47 rifles, motorcycles, and ammunition. Osoba noted that the troops have since consolidated their presence in the affected areas to maintain dominance and ensure public safety.
He said the military actions, carried out between May 1 and May 3, 2026, effectively thwarted a plot by the criminals to cause widespread havoc in the region.
Osoba noted that, in Katsina State, a fighting patrol along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsima LGA engaged terrorists in a fierce gun battle. The encounter resulted in the death of four terrorists, while soldiers seized two AK-47 rifles, seven mobile phones, and over ₦150,000 in cash from the fleeing criminals.
The success continued in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara state, where troops killed seven terrorists. Among the dead were two high-profile kingpins, Anaruwa and Gomina. Anaruwa was identified as the younger brother of Kachalla Idi Aiki, a well-known terrorist commander operating in the area.
During the Zamfara operations, the Nigerian Air Force provided critical support through precision airstrikes, helping ground troops repel a determined counterattack on the Bagega Forward Operating Base. While the military successfully cleared the area and recovered more weapons, one brave soldier unfortunately paid the ultimate price during the heat of the battle.
The military has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting citizens and eliminating the threat of insurgency across the North. Operation Fansan Yamma urges members of the public to remain vigilant and quickly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest security agencies.
