The Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) says it would establish Bachelor of Environmental Health Science degree programmes in Universities interested in providing academic and logistics support.
Registrar of the council, Dr Baba Yakubu, made the disclosure at the induction for 169 newly registered Environmental Health Technicians and Environmental Assistants, held at College of Health Science and Technology Keffi, on Thursday.
Yakubu disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had on Wednesday approved the commencement of Bachelor of Environmental Health Science in Bayero University Kano (BUK).
This, according to him, has added to the number of Universities that are running Bachelor of Environmental Health Science programmes in the country.
He explained that some of the Universities that started the degree programme recognised the certificate and the Diploma issued by the Colleges of Health Technology also recognised by the council.
Yakubu said the Certificates and Diplomas are recognised by the National Board for Technical Education ( NBTE), while the approval was given by the council.
” I want to assure the Provost of the College of Health Science and Technology, Keffi, that the council under his leadership is ready to establish degree programmes in all universities that may have interest in providing the necessary academic and also logistics for the commencement of Environmental Health Science.”
The registrar enjoined the inductees to abide by the oath of allegiance of the council, adding that the oath was a legal instrument indicating their allegiance to abide by the rules of engagements.
Earlier, the Provost of the College, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad, had urged the council to facilitate the introduction of Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health in Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
He acknowledged the intervention of the council for the construction of a field demonstration group for the college which added value to the NBTE accreditation process to the institution.
Muhammad expressed hope that the induction would open another window of partnership between the college and the council as well as the Federal Ministry of Environment in the area of human resource.
The provost thanked Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa for assenting to the bill for the upgrade of the institution into a collegeous status.
He also commended the governor for providing a befitting site for the relocation of the college.
On his part, National President of the council, Mr Jamilu Shua’ibu urged the inductees to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession and admonished them to be good ambassadors of the council. (NAN)
