About six persons were on Thursday killed in two separate attacks in Bakin Kogi, Kaninkon chiefdom, Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.
The killings were reported to have been carried out between 10am and 11am.
The killings were confirmed by a member of the security committee of the community, Auta Maurice, who said the gunmen, numbered about 10, wore army and mobile police uniforms.
He said three people were killed in the bush when they went to cut wood for the roofing of their houses, while three others were gunned down at a local mining site on the hills.
However, the Administrator of the Council, Alhaji Yusuf Usman, who also confirmed the incident said three persons lost their lives during a shootout between illegal miners.
Usman said during the scuffle, four other persons sustained injuries and are being treated at the Kafanchan General hospital.
He said security personnel had been deployed to the area to contain the situation, urging people to go about their normal businesses and report any suspicious persons to the appropriate authority.
