The President of the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), Udo Onyeka, has welcomed members, guests, and maritime stakeholders to the association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting and Lecture, describing the gathering as a major milestone in the group’s five-year journey.
In his address, Onyeka said CONMMEP, since its establishment in 2021, has remained committed to promoting excellence in maritime journalism and encouraging constructive engagement within the maritime sector. He thanked members for their support, commitment, and belief in the association’s vision, noting that their participation has been central to its progress.
He also expressed appreciation to the executive committee for what he described as their tireless efforts, sacrifice, and selfless service over the past year. According to him, the dedication of members who have upheld the association’s constitution, rules, and values has helped preserve its unity, professionalism, and integrity.
Onyeka said the association had learned important lessons from its challenges and achievements, and that those experiences would strengthen CONMMEP’s resolve to become more influential and prosperous in the years ahead.
He announced that the keynote lecture for the AGM would be delivered by Forwarder Dr. Eugene Nweke, Head of Research at the Sea Empowerment and Research Centre (SEREC), Lagos. The lecture is themed “Maritime Security, Trade Facilitation and the Media” and is expected to examine the link between maritime security, trade facilitation, national development, and the role of the media in promoting security and growth.
He also noted that the event would honour selected personalities with the CONMMEP Leadership Excellence Award in recognition of their contributions to national development, leadership, and service to humanity.
Onyeka concluded by expressing confidence that the AGM and lecture would inspire meaningful dialogue and strengthen collective efforts toward the growth of the maritime sector and the journalism profession.
