Deteriorating Shipping Conditions Along Hormuz Keeps Brent Crude Unsteady- Report

Deteriorating shipping conditions near the Strait of Hormuz have deteriorated forcing Brent crude prices to fluctuate more on Wednesday according to report.

Renewed attacks on commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz and escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi forces raised concerns about the reliability of Middle Eastern oil supplies, World Oil says in its latest report.

Maritime authorities reported that a container ship and an oil tanker were struck by unidentified projectiles Tuesday. Iranian authorities subsequently reported that another vessel sank south of the strait after encountering a naval mine.

Brent crude futures were trading near $105.56 per barrel in early afternoon London trading, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose to approximately $95.39 per barrel, its highest level in more than two weeks.

The market’s uneven performance reflects competing developments. Regional oil exports have recovered from earlier disruptions, but renewed attacks on shipping and energy infrastructure continue to raise concerns about whether those improvements can be sustained.

Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry confirmed that a Houthi attack on a Saudi Aramco administrative complex in Dhahran caused a fire. The incident followed several days of missile and drone attacks involving Saudi targets, including transportation facilities.

Although Aramco’s operations reportedly continued, the attacks have heightened concerns about the security of infrastructure supporting one of the world’s largest crude oil exporters.

The developments underscore the continuing risks associated with transporting petroleum through a waterway that historically handled approximately one-fifth of global oil supplies.

Despite the security challenges, Gulf crude exports excluding Iran recovered to more than 81 per cent of prewar levels in September, according to shipping data cited by Reuters.

Saudi Arabia accounted for a significant portion of that improvement.

However, stronger export volumes do not necessarily indicate an equivalent increase in production. Some additional shipments reflect changes in how existing crude supplies are distributed among domestic and international buyers.

Meanwhile, expectations for increased Russian diesel exports following temporary U.S. sanctions relief have provided some potential relief to refined product markets.

The International Energy Agency cautioned Wednesday that limitations affecting Russian refining capacity could prevent the arrangement from significantly improving global diesel availability.

For oil and gas producers, continued supply uncertainty may support crude prices and operating cash flow. However, transportation disruptions and elevated shipping expenses can affect export economics and realized pricing.

Refiners face a different challenge as higher crude acquisition costs and freight rates influence processing margins and regional fuel availability.

Midstream operators, tanker companies, and energy infrastructure providers may also experience changing transportation requirements as international buyers seek more reliable supply routes.

For investors, the distinction between recovering export volumes and dependable long-term supply remains important. Increased shipments can ease immediate market tightness, but repeated attacks may keep transportation costs elevated and complicate purchasing decisions.

The next developments to watch include shipping activity through Hormuz, Saudi production and export operations, tanker freight rates, and the availability of additional refined product supplies.

Until regional transportation conditions stabilize, crude prices are likely to remain sensitive to both physical supply developments and geopolitical events.
