Tragedy has been reported in the Ngugo community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, following the gruesome murder of one Mr Frank Nzeji and his United States of America-based son, Lawrence.

The father and son were reportedly shot dead by gunmen in military uniform while visiting a friend in Ogoni, Rivers State.

The gunmen were said to have swooped on the victims on sighting them and shot them dead right in the house of their host.

The driver of the victims, who was their kinsman, sustained injuries in the gory incident and, alerted the family members on the telephone, but later died.

It was gathered that a good Samaritan quickly picked up the remains of the victims and deposited them in an undisclosed hospital in Aba, Abia State, after reporting the incident at a police station in Rivers State.

The corpses were later moved to the Imo State Specialist Hospital mortuary, Umuguma, in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

According to Frank’s widow, Mrs Felicia Nzeji, the couple came from Greenville, South Carolina, USA, with their son, Obinna, an employee of ZF Transmission, USA, who came to Nigeria to get married.

Felicia stated that it was Obinna’s bride-to-be, who reported the killings to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Owerri.

She alleged that she and her other son, Ibeawuchi, were arrested, interrogated and later released.

Felicia explained that the matter had been referred to the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department of the state police command for further investigation.

When contacted on the issue, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Orlando Ikeoku, stated that he had not been briefed on the incident, which took place outside the state, but admitted that our correspondent’s was the second enquiry on the matter.
