Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma on Tuesday, March 24; launched the distribution of hand sanitizers to civil servants, markets, schools and other public places in the state.

Speaking at the event held in Owerri; Uzodinma ordered a partial shutdown of the workforce to prevent the possible spread of Coronavirus.

He assured the people of the state of his government’s preparedness to tackle the pandemic rocking the nation and the world at large.

He said, “In continuation of our programme to nip the spread of Coronavirus in the bud; the government has decided to close all night clubs and late-night restaurants as from Wednesday.

“Civil Servants above 45 years will be encouraged not to come to work because they are the most vulnerable group,” he said.

Uzodinma said that those on essential services would continue to come to work and promised that adequate measures had been put in place for their safety.

He reiterated that his government would continue to be proactive in the fight against the virus; and enjoined all citizens of the state to keep away from crowded places and strive to upgrade their personal hygiene.

“We are consistent with our commitment to the fight against the dreaded virus. Our commitment to ensuring that citizens awareness is put in place and as well continue to remain vigilant to ensure that all things needed to enlighten our people about this disease are put in place,” he said.

While admitting that coronavirus is real and spreading fast; the governor vowed to guard against anything that would bring the disease to the state.

“Today, we decided to procure hand sanitizers and we will distribute them to all nooks and crannies of the state,” he said.

Uzodinma further promised that his administration would continue to do its best to ensure that the state was safe.

He, however, tasked the citizens to be vigilant and quickly report anyone with any sign; or symptoms to the nearest hospital.
