Indian security has arrested a ‘Nigerian professor’ who was found in possession of an “intermediate quantity” of cocaine.

The suspect was identified as Nwagwu Princewill Chika.

Chika was arrested on Thursday by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in India.

He was nabbed in Nallasopara.

Reports in the press in India states that the arrest came after NCB operatives in Mumbai received an intelligence input on Chika’s whereabouts. Subsequently and based on the intel, they had conducted a raid in Nallasopara and arrested Chika.

Among the items recovered from him was 10.2 gm of cocaine and 1 blot of LSD. The NCB differentiates the quantity of drugs or banned substances in three levels – small, intermediate and commercial

“He has been arrested and will be produced before the court. He has some high profile links that we are probing,” disclosed Samir Wankhede, NCB zonal director.

However, the Nigerian professor is said to have refused to cooperate with authorities since his arrest.

“He is not cooperating with us and not sharing the passwords of his electronic gadgets,” one of the officials involved in the investigation was quoted to have said.

Chika, a graduate of Imo State University, Owerri arrived in India in 2017.

He was reported to have been involved in teaching about the functioning of government; from where he must have gotten the professor tag.

Authorities say the ‘Nigerian professor’ came to India on a tourist visa, which expired in 2018.

Nevertheless, he continued to stay in India and was reported to have even learnt the Hindi language.
