The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has described the promotion of 1,500 employees as the largest merit-based promotion exercise in the company’s history.

According to Sani Bala Sani, head of corporate communication of the company, the promotional exercise reflects KEDCO’s renewed commitment to staff welfare, motivation and the entrenchment of a performance-driven work culture.

Sani, said the promotions followed a comprehensive performance appraisal process and were conducted in line with best practices in corporate governance, fairness and transparency. Eligible staff who met the company’s conditions of service and demonstrated dedication, competence and resilience were considered for advancement.

According to him, the exercise underscores the company’s focus on human capital development as a key pillar of its ongoing transformation agenda under its core investor, Future Energies Africa (FEA), and the current management.

Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, KEDCO’s Managing Director, described the promotions as a strategic investment in the company’s workforce.

“This promotion exercise is not just a reward for hard work; it is a statement of intent. At KEDCO, we are building a culture where performance is recognized, excellence is encouraged, and our people are empowered to deliver value to our customers and stakeholders,” Jimeta said.

He added that employees remain the company’s greatest asset and that rewarding performance is essential to sustaining operational efficiency and improved service delivery.

The promotions form part of broader workforce reforms aimed at boosting productivity, enhancing customer experience and positioning KEDCO to respond effectively to the evolving demands of the power sector. The company said the initiative also reflects its resolve to promote industrial harmony and maintain a motivated workforce.

KEDCO reaffirmed its commitment to continuous staff development, capacity building and improved welfare, stressing that a motivated workforce is central to achieving reliable, efficient and customer-focused electricity distribution across its franchise area.
