The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, has engaged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the State with a view to establish a strong collaboration to address rising road carnage.

To achieve this the Commissioner visited the Commission in Lokoja along with representatives from various national television stations and newspapers, to announce  a new partnership initiative between the state government and the FRSC to improve road safety across Kogi State, which serves as a vital link to ten other states in the federation.

The Commissioner  conveyed Governor Ododo’s deep concerns regarding the alarming increase in road accidents within the state.

He outlined the government’s proactive measures to significantly reduce these incidents in the shortest possible time.

The Commissioner offered the sector commander airtime on the state broadcasting corporation.

This platform will be utilized for sensitization and education on safety regulations, particularly targeting commercial vehicle and articulated truck drivers. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with stakeholders, citizens, and the road safety command to ensure comprehensive safety measures are implemented throughout the state.

In his  response, the state commandant expressed gratitude to  the Kogi State Government’s commitment to supporting the FRSC’s efforts in promoting road safety. He expressed enthusiasm about strengthening the partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication to facilitate effective safety awareness campaigns through various media channels. The commandant noted that this collaboration would empower the FRSC to intensify its efforts in road safety education and enforcement.

This partnership marks a significant step towards ensuring the safety of all road users in Kogi State, fostering a culture of responsibility and awareness that is  aimed at  reducing accidents and saving lives.
