Tragedy struck the 3rd Mainland Bridge early on Saturday, August 23, 2025, when a Toyota Camry saloon car plunged into the Lagos Lagoon near Iyana Iworo.
The vehicle carried two occupants: a young woman named Aisha, aged between 25 and 35, and her colleague, 31-year-old Chado Daniel Danladi.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) received the distress call and immediately dispatched its Search and Rescue (SAR) team. Local divers were quick to recover Aisha’s body, which was then handed over to her family. Emergency units from LASWA coordinated seamlessly with the Marine Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), while local fishermen played a critical role in supporting the recovery efforts.
Although initial reports mentioned only a single occupant, further investigation uncovered the presence of Chado Daniel Danladi, who was also in the vehicle. His body was recovered after an extended SAR operation and returned to his family.
This tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers present on Lagos’s waterways but also highlights the strength of coordinated emergency responses and community support in times of crisis.
LASWA remains committed to ensuring safety and rapid response to such emergencies, reinforcing Lagos State’s ability to manage waterway accidents effectively.
