The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has pushed for more exposure through capacity training overseas.
The Union therefore commended Managing Director of Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Mr. Ascanio Russo for the training of dockworkers in Europe.
The Maritime Workers Union under the leadership of Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, further tasked other terminal operators to emulate the initiative by PTML in the area of capacity building mostly as it concerns foreign training
Apparently satisfied with the overseas training innovation, Adeyanju applauded the Managing Director of Ports and Terminal Multi services Ltd ( PTML) for the sponsorship of five dockworkers,who are members of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria and staffers of the concessionaire, such training would for boost efficiency in port operations.
The dockers who are under RORO, Tin Can Island District travelled for Mobile Crane Operation (RTG) training in Germany and Holland respectively.
According to a statement e-signed by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, the said Maritime Workers of PTML Unit have acquired specialized trainings on RTG operation both in Germany and Holland; and had returned to the country after their successful outings.
Adeyanju who doubles as the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), also the Vice President Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) commended Russo for being magnanimous enough to see reasons for training and retraining the workers for the purpose of pragmatic output in today’s modern industrial development and growth, such that would match the growing pace of global maritime practice.
Adeyanju described Mr. Russo as an advanced maritime industrial guru who in his own dynamic class with a visionary foresight towards manpower development in conformity with challenges of repositioning PTML for rapid progression of a more prosperous maritime outfit in the country and to measure at par with her counterparts across the globe.
“The Maritime Workers Union is absolutely impressed and grateful to the management of PTML over this wonderful gesture and pray that this symbiotic relationship between PTML and MWUN will continue to wax stronger in all ramifications.”Adeyanju was quoted in the statement.
Comrade Adeyanju also wants to use this medium to appeal to other stakeholders in the industry and Terminal Operators to follow suit and emulate the good deeds of PTML, believing that such manpower development will effectively and efficiently improve and impact immensely on workers psyche for maximum industrial growth and productivity.
