Peterside Commends Bala’s Appointment As IMSO Chairman

The Alternate Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr. Dikko Bala, has been appointed the Chairman of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO) for a period of two years.

The appointment was confirmed during the 24th session of IMSO in London.

Bala, a Deputy Director with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is currently the Alternate Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the IMO.

Commenting on his appointment, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside said the IMSO will not be disappointed by Mr. Dikko Bala’s leadership.

He described Mr. Bala as a committed individual who is focused and goal driven saying he will bring the experiences garnered in the course of his public life to bear on his new responsibility.

Born in Keffi, Nasarawa State on July 15, 1960, Mr. Bala earned a Higher National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply in 1983. He has also earned an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration, a Masters in Business Administration with a bias in Management as well as a Masters in Transportation. He also earned a Diploma in Anatomy in Shipping.

He is a member of several professional associations including the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Chartered Institute of Shipping and a Certified Member of institute of Administration.

Mr. Bala whose career spans over 30 years started out as a Superintendent with the Nigerian Immigration Service before joining the services of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) where he has been in the last 23yrs.

Before his appointment as the Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, Mr. Bala was the Special Adviser to the Nigerian Minister of Transport on Marine Operations.

He is also NIMASA’s Representative in London and heads the Maritime Desk at the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom.
