Prince Chukwuma Ojukwu (Agujiugo), the first son of the former traditional ruler of Awka-Etiti, late Igwe Akum Ojukwu, has been reportedly killed by unknown persons.

Ojukwu was said to have been allegedly assassinated last Tuesday in his residence at Awka-Etiti community by unidentified assailants, who stormed his residence in a bus and allegedly machete him to death.

The deceased, who sustained machete cuts all over his body, including head, was said to have on the eve of his assassination day, gone to bed hale and hearty even as he lived alone in the premises.

The news of his assassination, has reportedly resulted in fear of uncertainty gripping residents of the community.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, said, “this is what we saw today (Tuesday) and nobody was around with him to give hint on how he was assassinated.

“He was always alone in that his father’s palace, his mother and siblings never stayed with him in that palace after the death of his father, late Igwe Akum Ojukwu, who was our monarch.”

According to him, “it is left for the police to do a discrete investigation to expose those behind the dastardly act to face the wrath of the law,” he stated.

Another indigene, who simply identified herself as Miss Roseline, stated that, “as you can see, fear has gripped us; assassins stormed our community, killed first son of our late monarch and left unchallenged the way they came. That means security in our community is porous.

“I was told they came with a bus; but nobody could say the number of the assassins that have shook this community for two days now, putting everybody in palpable fear of the unknown. If the assailants are not fished out, that will mean that we will live in perpetual fear of the unknown until thy kingdom come,” he further stated.

When contacted, the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident, noting that the case was under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident and assured that the state police command would ensure that the fleeing perpetrators were arrested and brought to book.
