Crude Oil Price To Sustain Record High At $90 Per Barrel- Goldman

Leading global investment banking, securities, and asset and wealth management firm Goldman Sachs has increased its December 2026 Brent crude oil price forecast to $90 per barrel from $85.

The bank in arriving at the forecast cited continued supply disruptions in the Middle East and heightened geopolitical risks that could keep oil prices elevated through the remainder of the year.

The investment bank’s revised outlook reflects uncertainty surrounding oil production, transportation, and export activity across the Persian Gulf, where ongoing regional tensions have disrupted established energy supply routes.

Goldman Sachs estimates that geopolitical uncertainty is contributing a risk premium of slightly more than $20 per barrel to crude oil prices. The premium reflects market concerns about the availability of near-term supplies and the possibility of additional disruptions.

Despite raising its December forecast, the bank expects oil prices to moderate as producers and transportation networks adjust to changing conditions. Goldman Sachs maintained its average Brent crude forecast of $80 per barrel for 2027.

The bank also projects West Texas Intermediate crude will average $81 per barrel in December 2026 and $73 per barrel in 2027. The difference between Brent and WTI reflects, in part, elevated shipping costs between the United States and Europe.

Goldman Sachs outlined several potential scenarios for next year, highlighting the importance of production recovery across the Gulf region.

Under a scenario in which regional oil output remains approximately 5 million barrels per day below February 2026 levels, Brent crude could average around $125 per barrel in 2027.

Alternatively, if Gulf production increases by approximately 1 million barrels per day above February levels, Brent prices could decline into the $60-per-barrel range.

These scenarios illustrate the sensitivity of global crude markets to changes in production capacity, transportation availability, and geopolitical developments.

For U.S. exploration and production companies, sustained higher oil prices could support operating cash flow, capital spending, and shareholder returns. However, producers must also consider the potential for price volatility when establishing drilling budgets, evaluating acquisitions, and determining hedging strategies.

Midstream operators and energy infrastructure companies may experience changing transportation and storage requirements as global trade flows adjust. Refiners face additional uncertainty as crude acquisition costs, product demand, and regional fuel margins respond to shifting market conditions.

The outlook also underscores the importance of capital discipline. While elevated commodity prices can improve near-term profitability, investment decisions generally depend on expectations for longer-term pricing rather than temporary supply disruptions.

For energy investors, the revised Goldman Sachs forecast provides another indication that geopolitical risk remains an important component of crude oil pricing.

The bank’s expectations for lower prices in 2027 suggest that improvements in regional production and export capacity could eventually ease current supply pressures.

Investors will be watching Middle East production levels, the reliability of international shipping routes, and the pace at which global oil inventories recover.

These factors will help determine whether today’s elevated prices translate into sustained financial benefits for energy producers or give way to a more balanced oil market in 2027
