Unknown gunmen have shot at a Mobile Police Officer in Delta State.

The assailants also made away with the AK47 of the slain Cop during the incident that occurred along the popular Jakpa road.

Although details of the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing the report, it was gathered that the deceased was an escort of a yet-to-be-identified man who was making purchases at a nearby shop.

Sources said the assailants drove to the spot, rained pellets on him and ensured he was stone dead before carting away his rifle.

“The Mother bile Policeman had escorted a man to a nearby drink shop and was standing outside the shop, waiting for the man he escorted.

“Suddenly, the gunmen drove to the spot, came down from their vehicle and shot straight at him several times until he was confirmed dead before they made away with the AK 47 rifle he was carrying,” a source related.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident, could not give details about the deceased cop.

“It is true. I don’t have any information, but the truth is that a mobile policeman was killed along Jakpa Road. But his details, where he is attached to, I don’t have for now,” the PPRO said.

It will be recalled that in the past two months or so, no fewer than five mobile policemen have been killed and their arms stolen at various parts of the state.
