The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani of has given approval for the release of over N4.2 billion for the payment of pension entitlements, gratuities and death benefits to retired civil servants, as well as families of deceased workers across state and local government services.
The approval covers obligations under the Contributory Pension Scheme (Accrued Rights) and the Defined Benefit Scheme, in line with the administration’s commitment to clearing outstanding liabilities and strengthening social protection.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, in a statement explained that the move is as a reflection of Governor Uba Sani’s people-centred approach to governance and his determination to prioritise the welfare of senior citizens.
According to the Commissioner, the intervention is aimed at restoring dignity to retirees, honouring their years of meritorious service, and reassuring families of deceased workers that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
Maiyaki said the latest disbursement further demonstrates the administration’s sustained efforts to address pension backlogs and rebuild confidence in the system.
He disclosed that with the new release, the cumulative amount paid by the present administration since inception has risen to N17.796 billion, benefiting no fewer than 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.
The Commissioner added that the governor’s interventions in the pension sector form part of broader reforms designed to promote fiscal discipline, improve transparency and ensure sustainability in the management of public finances.
He reassured that the Kaduna State Government would continue to implement prudent financial strategies and institutional reforms to guarantee the timely settlement of pension obligations while safeguarding the long-term viability of the system.
Maiyaki noted that the administration remains committed to upholding the dignity of labour and ensuring that public servants retire with a sense of fulfilment, security and respect.
