The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has flagged off the groundbreaking ceremony for the development of Lot 7 – Design, Supply, and Installation of a 33kV Power Infrastructure Project in the state.

The ceremony, held in Ambursa, is aimed at strengthening the state’s electricity network and ensuring a more reliable power supply for residents.

Flagging off the project, Governor Nasir Idris said his administration is committed to partnering with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to enhance effective and efficient service delivery in the power sector.

He noted that the state’s 3.5MW solar power project, being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency, will significantly improve electricity supply across Kebbi State.

The Governor described electricity as the lifeblood of modern economic development, adding that the project, upon completion, will deliver 3.5 megawatts of clean solar energy, supported by battery storage systems that will ensure power availability even after sunset.

Governor Idris commended the Rural Electrification Agency and its partners, Kelm Elicon Joint Venture, through whom the project is being executed.

He further disclosed that the Kebbi State Government had provided the project site free of charge to Kelm Elicon Joint Venture and urged the contractors to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe.

The Governor also called on the people of Ambursa to embrace the project, safeguard the facilities, and cooperate fully with the contractors and workers throughout the implementation period.

Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved 750 million US dollars for the Agency to implement interconnected mini-grid projects across the country.

He explained that about 10 million US dollars would be invested in the Kebbi State project, which is expected to benefit more than 1,000 households, including the Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, through improved electricity supply.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Kobeissi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Ltd., Ali Kobeissi, assured that the project would be completed within the next eight months. He appealed to the benefiting communities to support the successful execution of the project.
