The Abia State Government has declared Friday, December 18, a public holiday due to the forthcoming local government elections holding in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Abia State Honorable Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, on Wednesday.

According to him, the movement of persons and goods shall be restricted within the state from midnight of Thursday, December 17, 2020.

He, however, revealed that only staff of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), security agents, media practitioners, and others on essential duties will be exempted from the restrictions.

He also urged citizens and visitors to ensure that they maintain peace, law, and order before, during, and after the election.
