The committee overseeing the Nigeria–Niger–Libya gas pipeline project met last weekend to advance its technical and coordination work.
Discussions focused on reviewing and analysing preliminary engineering studies and concepts, as well as developing a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria. Members also examined efforts aimed at moving the project into its next phases.
Libya’s Ministry of Oil and Gas said the meeting is part of the committee’s ongoing work to assess technical feasibility and strengthen coordination among the parties involved.
It will be recalled that in September 2024 Libya and Nigeria had agreed to prepare an MoU to conduct technical and economic feasibility studies on Nigeria’s plan to implement a pipeline project to transport gas produced from its fields to export gas to Europe via Libya.
The two sides, the Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Oi and Gas had earlier discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in natural gas projects, and the joint role of Libya and Nigeria in supporting global energy security, in a way that serves the interests of both countries and enhances stability in the region.
The meeting also discussed the possibilities of developing the gas pipeline project linking Libya and Nigeria, exporting gas to European markets, in addition to discussing the necessary executive steps to activate this vital project.
