The National Youth Service Corps has expressed its determination to use the Orientation Course and service year periods to promote value re-orientation among Corps Members.

It said this would serve as catalyst for social change and national development.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Workshop held in Jos, Plateau State.

He said the theme of the workshop; “Value Reorientation Among the Youths: A Catalyst for National Rebirth”, is in line with the desire of the Federal Government at ensuring value re-orientation of the youths for a better society.

While charging all camp officials to serve as mentors to the Corps Members, the DG emphasized that the spirit of the Corps Members must always be kept high.

“I therefore enjoin all participants to contribute meaningfully to the deliberations so that at the end of the workshop, far reaching resolutions arrived at will lead to the effective utilization of the potentials of the Corps Members in national development.

To this end, State Coordinators are expected to continuously sensitize camp officials, Corps Members and other members of the camp community on the importance of being committed to whatever role or responsibility is assigned to them.

We are to also display leadership by example in all our dealings with the corps members”, the DG said.

The NYSC Chief Executive also revealed that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure that Corps Members have a memorable orientation experience.

The Director General therefore directed that all extant guidelines necessary for achieving a successful execution of the Orientation Course should be religiously observed as monitoring of compliance would be intensified.

Earlier, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhaji Ahmed Wada Ikaka in his introductory address said the Scheme is working closely with critical stakeholders to ensure a seamless execution of the forthcoming 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.

Mr Ikaka stated that as the first point of call for all Corps Members, the Orientation Course creates a good and lasting impression on their minds, therefore, all hands must be on deck to make their impressions worthwhile.

The workshop drew participants from the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Federal Fire Service, National Health Insurance Authority, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency among others.
