WE (A GROUP OF SOME NIGERIAN STUDENTS) HAVE FOUND THE POSSIBLE CURE TO THE SARS-COV-2, THE DISEASE CAUSING THE NEW CORONAVIRUS.

Dear All,
I am writing on behalf of my colleagues that we both started this project together and also for the benefit of every Nigerian out there. We are presently concerned with the present conditions our country is into presently due to the coronavirus pandemic.
I would like to express the Government’s gratitude for the vital work currently being carried out across the research sector to address the impacts of COVID-19. Research and innovation will be key to successfully meeting this challenge.
Recognizing the fast-moving nature of the COVID-19 outbreak and recent advice regarding increased home-working, social distancing and self-isolation, I thought it would be helpful for me to convey some messages regarding research activities I and my other colleagues have done so far.
First, as part of the efforts to suppress the spread of COVID-19, I know, and am grateful, Second, I am also grateful for the work the government in every sector is doing to curb the spread of this virus.
We are adequately aware and informed of the implications that the emergence of the SARS-COV-2 has already for public health and our economy.
Firstly, I will start by saying that, as I read it in the news some days ago that the CBN have developed a framework for grants and long term facilities to researchers… to develop Nigeria Vaccine or Drug for the SARS-COV-2, the disease causing the new coronavirus. I decided to give it a trial by writing the CBN through Twitter on Wednesday 13th of May, 2020. And I still await their response (s) on that.
To be very detailed, since the outbreak of this viral infection in Nigeria, I’d set up a research team consisting various students across different institutions within the country and in attendance is also one of my lecturer from Federal poly, Ilaro. And in summary we have;
A student of Pharmacy from the UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN
A student of Nursing from LUTH
A student of Chemistry from OOU
A graduate of Biochemistry from FUOYE
Two of us from FPI.
Going further, our aim was to investigate and evaluate the efficacy of some plant that I would not disclose here in the treatment of the novel coronavirus.
OUR SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES IS TO;
-Extract the active ingredients or useful chemical compounds from our research samples.
-To be able to independently formulate a research questions, as well as being able to design and conduct a study to address questions particular to the COVID-19.
-And finally, providing a cure through drugs which are capable of treating people suffering from the novel coronavirus and even those with underlying health issues like Diarrhea, cancer, Diabetes etc.
Moreover, the good news is that we already have the possible cure to this infectious disease. With a very deep certainty, we are very sure that our discovery will not just treat coronavirus patients.
We have adopted a symptom-based treatment that will also be efficient in treating those with underlying health issues as they are the people who are more susceptible to this dangerous virus and they account for most of the fatalities resulting from the SARS-COV-2.
More so, the basis of our work here is that those plants of interest find use in folklore medicine and have been claimed to be responsible for some therapeutic effects and their activities are believed to be due to the presence of some secondary metabolites in them. A problem here is that we cannot do these trials without having a medical facility to use. So also we will need the service of a specialist and virology. Also, for clinical studies, medical experts will be required.
In addition, since the government of Nigeria and the CBN are inclined to have a Nigerian cure of COVID-19 and are also willing to support researchers. I can assure you that if we are being financed, then, we already have a possible Nigerian cure.
In conclusion, coronavirus has come and it will surely go, this is the time for the government of Nigeria to pillar with the student of Nigeria has this approach by us will make other students in our categories to gear up. But if we aren’t supported then it is just like we have a type of government that doesn’t take delight in practicing what they preach. Also, this is a sign that something good can still come out of Nigeria… Thank you!
God Bless Nigeria!!!
OLUKOYA Isaac A.
