Robert Lewandowski has climbed up into third on the all-time top scorer charts across Europe’s top five divisions.
The Barcelona striker netted twice in Sunday’s win over Sevilla to take his return for the club up to 73, netting his 365th and 366th goals across his time in Europe’s major domestic league competitions. With 366, Lewandowski climbs one ahead of a familiar foe in the record books. German hitman Gerd Muller, whose record for most Bundesliga goals in a calendar year was broken by the Poland international in 2021, drops down after seeing his return of 365 goals surpassed.
Lewandowski moves up into joint third place, level with Tottenham Hotspur legend Jimmy Greaves on 366 goals and behind only the iconic duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo ended his stint in Europe with 495 goals and once led the scoring charts before Messi took his tally up to 496 in 2023. The Argentine reached his tally in just 577 games across his time in La Liga and Ligue 1, whereas Ronaldo needed 626 to reach his milestone during his spells in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A.
The liklihood of Lewandowski, who turned 36 in August, catching up to the pair is slim, although he could feasibly break the 400-goal barrier by the end of the season if he continues his current pace.
