Aviation Editor New Telegraph Newspaper and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wole Shadare on Wednesday displayed class at this year’s Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) as he won the Aviation Reporter of the Year with his entry; “White elephant airport.”

This was as President Mohammadu Buhari urged the media to keep playing its roles with patriotism, saying that journalists have the responsibilities not to allow the citizens to forget “those who brought Nigeria to her knees.”

Represented by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the President commended the media for the contributions towards rebuilding the country.

He beat correspondents from New Telegraph and Nation to clinch the coveted award described as the biggest media award in Nigeria.

Shadare gained admission to the University of Ilorin in 1993 where he bagged a Bachelors of Arts (Honours) in Linguistics.

Not satisfied with the first degree and his quest for more knowledge, he enrolled with the Lagos State University for his Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies (PGD IRSS) in 2001. Upon completion of the PGD, he enrolled for his Masters Degrees in International Relations and Strategic Studies in the same university and graduated in 2004 and was awarded with Masters in International Relations and Strategic Studies (MIRSS).

He started his career in The Guardian with the Saturday Newspaper in 2001, before he was through the dint of hard work, perseverance and objective coverage, Shadare rose to become the Head of the Aviation Desk of the newspaper. He left The Guardian in 2014 for New Telegraph where he is currently Aviation Editor.

Regarded as the most travelled aviation journalist in Nigeria, he has in the course of his career visited over 120 countries in Europe, United States, Africa, South America, North America and Asia for aviation and airline conferences. He has also attended many other conferences in Nigeria.

In 2009, 2010 and 2016, he was nominated for the Aviation Reporter of the year by the National Media Merit Award (NMMA).
