2 Security Attaché Die As Oshiomhole’s Convoy Crash

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday, September 1, escaped death in an auto crash in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State.

However, two security aides attached to Oshiomhole lost their lives.

The accident occurred when an articulated vehicle lost control and ran into the convoy near Oluku junction in the LGA.

The convoy was heading to Usen to join the APC campaign train for the September 19 governorship election in Edo when the accident occurred.

A statement signed by Oshiomhole’s media aide, Victor Oshoke, said two other persons were wounded in the accident.

He added that the development forced the APC governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu to call off his rally at Usen.

The statement reads: “Some minutes after 12:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, September 1, 2020; there was a motor accident involving the convoy of Adams Oshiomhole, along Benin-Lagos by-pass before Oluku junction.

“We are sad to report that two police personnel in the Toyota Hilux truck lost their lives; while two others are in critical condition receiving treatment at a hospital in the state. Adams Oshiomhole and other persons in the convoy; apart from those indicated above, did not sustain any injuries.”

“While we pray for the quick recovery of the injured policemen; we extend our condolences to the families of the departed.

“The case was immediately reported at the Ekiadolor Police Station, and investigations are also ongoing.”

Meanwhile, Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has condoled with Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu; over the death of two policemen attached to the party’s campaign entourage in a crash.

Obaseki, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, commiserated with the families of the victims of the crash; and prayed God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of their loved ones.

He said: “I received the news of the accident with shock and commiserate with the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole; and the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election (Ize-Iyamu) over the very unfortunate incident; involving their security aides and top chieftains of the party in the campaign team.

“While we pray for strength for the families of the deceased persons; we also pray for the quick recovery of those who were injured; and are also receiving treatment.”
