The Local Organising Committee that will ensure successful execution of the 2019 SIGNIS Nigeria Film & Video Festival scheduled for Enugu has been inaugurated.
Very Rev. Fr Patrick Alumuku, President, SIGNIS Nigeria presided over the brief but colourful inauguration ceremony at a Mass held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Enugu last Tuesday.
The event which was attended by several officials of SIGNIS Nigeria, members of the newly inaugurated LOC and media practitioners in the diocese, marked a turning point in the resolve of the new executives to provide a world class platform for healthy competition and showcasing of the best of Catholic films in the country. The committee is headed by Rev. Fr Ben Achi, Director of Communications, Enugu diocese.
In the terms of reference made available to the committee, Fr Alumuku revealed that, like many world class festivals, Enugu has been chosen as permanent venue for the annual SIGNIS Nigeria Film and Music Festival which is aimed at fostering the production and showcasing of the best of Catholic films that can compete effectively with the international standards.
He challenged the committee to work assiduously to ensure that the festival scheduled to hold next year November records huge success in terms of quality of entries, assessment of entries, awards, adequate sponsorship, extensive media promotions, amongst others.
According to him, ‘ Part of our goal is to produce a world class film that will professionally tell the story of the challenges and triumphs of the church in Nigeria that will be showcased at the world congress of SIGNIS to be held in Soul, South Korea in 2021. We don’t want to be spectators anymore. We want to prove to the world that the Catholic media in Nigeria has indeed come of age.’
