The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 39 persons in a Lagos strip club for violating the lockdown regulations.

The Command disclosed this via its official handle on the microblogging site, Twitter on Sunday.

‘‘…39 suspects were also arrested on 24/4/2020 for clubbing and striptease which goes against the social distancing & lockdown regulations. They have also been charged to court accordingly.’’

The Police said that its operatives had arrested a number of lockdown violators in various parts of the state.

It stated that on Tuesday, April 21, officers from Denton Division arrested 95 interstate travellers in seven commercial buses. They were allegedly attempting to travel out of the state against the lockdown order.

The Command revealed that the suspects have been charged to court and sentenced accordingly.

Also, operatives from Maroko Police Station have arrested and charged 10 suspects for organising a party at Lekki Garden.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement said that; the suspects have been arraigned in court on three-count charge and found guilty as charged.

“They were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and community service, to run concurrently,” he said.

Elkana, disclosed that officers from the RRS have also arrested the Imam of Sheik Central Mosque, Mile 12; for holding prayers in the mosque with a large number of worshippers. The Imam, he affirmed, will also be charged to court.

Elkana stated that 121 violators of the lockdown order have been arrested in different parts of Lagos State.

The violators, he disclosed have all been charged to court and awarded fines; ranging from N5,000 to N10,000 and two hours’ community services.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu; has advised residents to be law-abiding especially during the lockdown period and also warned against spreading fake news and recycling old videos as those involved will be prosecuted.
