The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has commenced a specialised Human Capacity Development (HCD) training programme in Digitalization and Digitization for 45 young Nigerians as part of efforts to build a future-ready workforce for the oil and gas industry.
The 12-month programme, implemented in partnership with Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HEOSL) and Global Ocean Engineers Nigeria Limited, will provide participants with advanced training in Predictive Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Python Programming, and Cyber Security.
Speaking at the kick-off ceremony in Lagos, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, FNSE, represented by the General Manager, Human Capacity Development, Ms. Alexis Emelle, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigerian talent and a key component of the Board’s drive to deepen local capacity in emerging technology fields.
She noted that the programme goes beyond conventional training and is designed to prepare participants for critical roles in an industry that is increasingly driven by digital technologies and data-based decision-making.
According to her, the beneficiaries were selected because of their potential and capacity to excel in a highly specialised field that will shape the future of the oil and gas industry.
“The opportunity before you is both a privilege and a responsibility. Thousands of young Nigerians would have desired to be part of this programme. You were selected because of your qualities and potential. The task before you is to justify that confidence through commitment, discipline, and excellence,” she stated.
Emelle explained that the training aligns with NCDMB’s mandate to develop Nigerian capacity and create opportunities that drive national growth. She added that the Board remains committed to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting industry transformation and increasing Nigerian participation in high-value areas of the sector.
The Executive Secretary further stressed the importance of digital competencies in modern energy operations, noting that skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber security, and data analytics are becoming essential for improving operational efficiency, enhancing transparency, reducing revenue leakages, and strengthening competitiveness.
In his welcome address, the representative of the Managing Director of Global Ocean Engineers Nigeria Limited, Edifon Umoren, commended NCDMB for its sustained investment in human capital development and described the programme as a significant contribution to building a skilled workforce for Nigeria
He stated that the initiative represents more than a training exercise, noting that it is an investment in people and the future of the industry. He also acknowledged NCDMB’s commitment to workforce development and Heritage Energy’s dedication to nurturing talent within the sector.
Also speaking, Manager, Nigerian Content Development at Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, Mr. Felix Usiwo, said the programme was designed to equip young professionals with digital skills required to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting capacity-building initiatives and expressed confidence that the trainees would emerge as professionals capable of making meaningful contributions to the digital transformation of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The programme will comprise six months of intensive classroom instruction followed by six months of practical on-the-job training, providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on industry experience.
NCDMB expressed optimism that the initiative would produce a new generation of digitally skilled professionals equipped to drive innovation, improve operational performance, and support the continued growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
