Artificial intelligence governance will feature prominently at this year’s National Corporate Governance Summit as experts prepare to examine the opportunities and risks associated with digital transformation.

Organisers said one of the summit’s major plenary sessions will focus on the strategic role of corporate governance in artificial intelligence adoption and the responsibilities of boards in overseeing emerging technologies.

Addressing journalists in Lagos, members of the National Organising Committee noted that organisations increasingly require governance frameworks capable of managing ethical, regulatory and operational challenges created by artificial intelligence.

They said the discussions would help directors and senior executives understand how technology governance contributes to organisational resilience and sustainable innovation.

The organisers explained that as businesses adopt automation, machine learning and digital platforms, boards must strengthen oversight mechanisms to address issues relating to cybersecurity, privacy, data protection and accountability.

Experts participating in the summit are also expected to explore international governance standards for responsible AI deployment while identifying lessons applicable to Nigerian institutions.

The conference will further examine how digital transformation can improve productivity and public service delivery without compromising transparency, compliance or stakeholder trust.

Organisers believe that embedding governance principles into technology adoption will position Nigerian organisations to compete more effectively in an increasingly digital global economy.

The two-day summit, scheduled for July 21 and 22 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, is expected to attract more than 500 participants, including policymakers, regulators, investors, corporate leaders, governance professionals, development partners and representatives of key public institutions.

Organisers said the gathering would provide a high-level platform for dialogue on governance reforms, institutional excellence and sustainable economic development, with participants sharing practical strategies to strengthen governance across Nigeria’s public and private sectors.
