Aisha Yesufu, has been largely condemned after she expressed support to the LGBT community.
The LGBT community refers to people with diverse sexual orientations; such as lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders, among others.
Aisha Yesufu who spearheaded the #BringBackOurGirls protest in 2014 and was one of the most outspoken activists in the heat of the 2020 #EndSARS protest was dragged by netizens for her tweets on homosexualism.
She mentioned that homosexuals and members of the LGBT community in Nigeria have the fundamental rights to express their sexuality.
Yesufu mentioned that queer people deserve more respect in this part of the world.
In a tweet posted on her handle on Monday, January 11; the activist stated that homosexuality has been practised in Nigeria for a long time.
”You do not need anyone liking your choice of sexuality.
”All you need is being given the right to practise your sexuality.
”Homosexuality was freely practised in Nigeria for hundreds of years and I witnessed same-sex marriages in the 80s.
”So calm down, it is not a new discovery,” she tweeted.
Since her tweet surfaced online, netizens have trolled the activist for her comments.
Several social commentators especially Arewa Twitter and the Islamic demographic on the microblogging site, Twitter have slammed the activist for standing with the LGBT community. As a matter of fact, they opined that it is wrong for her to show support for something that God forbids.
Aisha Yesufu has since responded to their comments as well as that of a man who asked to ”sleep with her son since she supports homosexuals.”
