The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has increased transformer capacity in its Ajah substation with additional 60MVA.
This brings the substation capacity to 220MVA from 160MVA, even as on-going works to bring back to service another 60MVA power transformer in the substation has reached an advanced stage.
TCN General Manager (Public Affairs), Seun Olagunju, said that the installation of the additional 60MVA 132/33kV mobile power transformer in the substation was informed by the need to meet the increased bulk electricity demand by the Eko Distribution Company, arising from the growing number of electricity consumers in the Ajah axis of Lagos State.
She added that the Alagbon stations 2x60MVA power transformers were shut down to allow TCN execute reconstruction works in the substation and on completion of the reconstruction works, the old 2x60MVA 132/33kV power transformers were brought back to service, increasing the substation capacity of Alagbon to 300MVA.
“This exceeded the requisite transformer capacity for the area, resulting in the decision to relocate one of the 60MVA mobile power transformers to the Ajah substation.
“Mobile transformers ensure that TCN continues to wheel power to designated distribution load centers through our Substations,” she explained.
“With the installation of the 1x60MVA, 132/33kV mobile power transformer in Ajah, TCN can now wheel more bulk electricity through the station to distribution load centers in Ajah, consequently increasing available power supply for distribution to electricity consumers in the area.
“TCN is committed to working with other stakeholders in the sector, towards the growth and expansion of the power industry and improved power supply to Nigerians,” she added.
