The Anambra State House of Assembly has raised security concerns over idle electricity project as it called on Enugu Electricity Distribution Commission, EEDC, to urgently energise the electricity projects in Anambra West Constituency.

Victor Okoye, member representing Anambra West Constituency, who moved the motion, “under matters of urgent public importance” noted that the project completed for about six months ago by EEDC had not been energised.

“EEDC’s failure to energise the transformer makes it stand the risk of being vandalised by robbers.

“If robbers steal important components from the transformer, it will lead to extra expenses of getting it fixed,” Okoye said.

Supporting the motion, member representing Orumba North Constituency, Mr Romanus Obi decried EEDC’s lack of manpower/work force to complete a project that they started.

He noted that EEDC management sacked a lot of workers, which could have led to inadequate manpower to cope with the job.

Mr Obi also said that, if EEDC energised the transformer at Anambra West and other places with similar issues, it would help them to generate revenue for them as people would also pay their bills.

Ogbaru 2 Constituency member, Somotochukwu Udeze called on the Commissioner for Public Utilities to help EEDC to make life better for Anambra people.

Rita Maduagwu, speaker, Anambra House of Assembly, while passing the resolutions, urged EEDC as a matter of urgency, to energise the 33KVA transformer at Umueze-Anam, Nzam and other communities in Anambra West.

Meanwhile, Maduagwu has congratulated Governor Willie Obiano on his 63rd birthday, wishing him long life.

She also commended him over his commitment toward the good of Anambra people.

Azubuike Okoye, member Anaocha 1 Constituency, while moving the motion for adjournment, noted that it was regrettable that a youth was murdered jn cold blood at Agulu by a police officer.

He, then, called on Anambra Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action, urging that the careless police officer be brought to book.

Also contributing, Nnewi South 1 member, Kingsley Iruba, supporting Okoye, observed that similar incident took place at Ukpor, where a young man was shot by a police officer.

He observed that until date, nothing had been done to punish the offender.

Iruba as a matter of urgency, called on the commissioner to rise to the challenge in order to tackle the problem.
