The Anambra State Police have arrested two suspected armed robbers along millennium road Awka in Awka South local government area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed said the suspects were arrested by patrol team attached to B’ Division Awka while on stop and search operations.
According to Mohammed on the 18th November, 2020 at about 2pm, police patrol team attached to B’ Division Awka while on stop and search operations along millennium road Awka intercepted a tricycle with two occupants behaving in a suspicious manner.
“A bag was concealed inside the tricycle and upon search of the bag, an English made baretta pistol with filed out breech number loaded with three rounds of .9mm live ammunition was recovered therefrom. The suspects were promptly arrested as follows:
“(i).Obiako Chukwujekwu Henry ‘m’ aged 21years (Alias AJIE) from Umudioka Village Awka and (ii).Emmanuel Echezona Ogbonna ‘m’ aged 27years (Alias Oceanic) native of Ikwo in Ebonyi State but resident at Ezejiaku street Umueri Awka.
“Suspects are assisting the police with useful information to unravel their motive of being in possession of prohibited firearm after which they would be brought to justice.
“It would be recalled that of recent, cases of cult clash was on the increase in Awka prior to the commencement of a robust 24hours patrol by the Command Rapid Response Squad and other patrol teams in the State.”
