A non-governmental organisation; Anioma Youths Network for Development (AYND) has congratulated Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on his election as the Deputy Senate President in a keenly contested election on Tuesday. He defeated Senator Ike Ekweremadu; a three-time Deputy Senate President.

In a press statement signed by the National Coordinator of AYND, Mr. Odita Sunday and the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Frank Oshanugor, the group expressed appreciation to the senators who deemed it fit to vote in favor of Omo-Agege, a lawmaker from South-South, considered a minority zone in the country.

While rejoicing with the new Deputy President, AYND has advised him to see his election as a challenge to his leadership ability at a time Nigeria is facing difficulty in different aspects of her national life prominent among which is the issue of insecurity.

The AYND which has its members from the Delta North Senatorial District has expressed worry on the increasing spate of killings in the area by herdsmen and has asked Omo-Agege as a principal Officer in Ninth Senate to make a positive difference by aligning with his colleagues to find a lasting solution to the herdsmen menace in different parts of the country.

As kidnapping has become the order of the day, AYND has also enjoined Omo-Agege and his colleagues to come up with workable solutions that would redefine the current approach in putting an end to the regime of kidnapping for ransom which is largely believed to be caused by youth unemployment in the country.
