The Nigerian Army through its theatre operations around the country, have rescued 141 kidnapped victims in the past week.
A statement by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, indicates that the operations led to the neutralisation of more than fifty terrorists and another sixty of them arrested.
According to the statement, 32 extremists and other criminals were arrested, while troops, particularly in the South-South region of the country, foiled oil theft and destroyed seven illegal refining sites, and arrested nine oil thieves.
The statement said troops during clearance operations across BORNO and Yobe states uncovered and destroyed three major detention facilities used by terrorists to detain kidnapped victims with capacities to keep 300 kidnapped persons.
It further said, following the successes of troops in the fight against insecurity, a second batch of 700 Nigerian refugees in Cameroon have been repatriated to Nigeria through Borno State.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that operations against terrorism and other criminal activities will continue until lasting peace is achieved.
