The Avocado Society of Nigeria (AVOSON) has appointed Ambassador Adeniyi Sola Bunmi as their new Chief Executive Officer.
His appointment came at the heels of the association’s first annual general meeting held in January 2020.
Amb.Adeniyi, the founder of Gogreen Impact Africa Initiative, is to preside over the affairs of the association for the next five years. The appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer is coming at a time when the association is taking giant strides in the commercialisation of Hass avocado production, processing and export in Nigeria.
AVOSON is the national association of avocado farmers, packers, and exporters in Nigeria duly registered with theCorporate Affairs Commission and Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
The association is at the forefront of promoting the sustainable production of avocado in the country, with a vision of generating seedlings for over 3000 acres of farmland across the Avocado producing states of Nigeria. AVOSON partners with different international avocado associations, with active participation in the globalAvocado trade.
The new CEO of AVOSON, Ambassador Adeniyi Bunmi, is an agribusiness development coach and a certified value chain expert. He has an unparalleled passion for agricultural advocacy with tremendous experience in the agricultural industry.
Having trained over 2500 youths and women across Nigeria on different area of agribusiness, he is adequately equipped with the needed knowledge and expertise to drive AVOSON’s aim of distributing avocado seedlings to hundreds of youths and women across Nigeria. Mr. Adeniyi is a member of different agro-aligned boards, including the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association. He is an advisory member of the African Society of Agribusiness Professionals, and Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Agribusiness Management of Nigeria.
Avocado, especially the Hass variety, farming is a multi-billion dollar industry globally. In recent times, the industry is witnessing massive influx of investors in Nigeria with several farms springing across the country. The Avocado Society of Nigeria aims to improve the profitability of avocado production and processing in the country. This development has led to the association’s consistent effort in providing technical support to avocado farmers and funding relevant market research. Also, AVOSON is actively engaged in local market development and liaises with relevant government agencies for the development of the sector.
Ambassador AdeniyiSola Bunmi, the new CEO, is expected to bring his wealth of expertise to the Society, and further drive its transformative mission. With his appointment, AVOSON hopes to further strengthen its partnership with multiple stakeholders – private and public – to provide a platform for the strategic implementation of innovative services in the industry. The overall aim of the association remains improving the viability and sustainability of avocado farming in Nigeria. There’s no doubt that Mr. Adeniyi will bring his vast experience and expertise in agribusiness to the avocado growing and processing sector. It’s just a matter of time before Hass avocado farming becomes the most profitable agribusiness investment in the country.
