The Bayelsa Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, has assured that the Bayelsa Independent Power Project would soon be completed and will address the unreliable electricity supply in the State capital.
The project on completion would be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu, the Commissioner said.
The Yenagoa Independent Power Project was embarked upon by the Governor Douye Diri-led Administration, pledging to solve the persistent blackout experienced in the Bayelsa State capital.
The facility, which will provide 50 Megawatt electricity fired from gas turbines, is located at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government area, near Yenagoa.
The State government had repeatedly told residents that the Project would be completed in December last year and later, in February this year, but that did not come to fruition.
With construction works still ongoing, residents are anxiously waiting for it to be completed to provide an uninterrupted electricity supply to power their businesses and homes and boost socio-economic activities.
Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, said finishing touches were being put in place, with President Bola Tinubu expected to inaugurate the project on completion.
The Director of Operations at the Bayelsa Electricity Company, Steve Bubagha, said the contractors were working to complete the project.
Engineers at the 60 megawatt gas turbine project said when completed, the facility would provide electricity to residents in Yenagoa metropolis from Igbogene to Swali.
