Chevron Offers Relief Support To IDPs In  Delta And Bayelsa States

Chevron Nigeria Limited has donated mattresses, food items, toiletries and other materials to assist flood victims in Warri South -West, Warri North and Igbogene in Yenagoa Local Government Areas, Bayelsa. This is yet another significant contribution to the wellbeing of people in Nigeria by the Joint Venture.

At the Warri South West LGA, Secretary to the Local Government, Mrs. Gabari Gladys Omare of  Warri South-West LGA and the State Emergency Management Authority (SEMA) Representative Mrs. Attu Evelyn received the items  on behalf of  the Warri South-West LGA Chairman, Hon Tuoyo Duke Taiye, while in Warri North LGA, Koko the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Victor German with the support of the HOD, Engineering, Engr. Jerry Atigan received the items on behalf of Hon. Mr. Aduge Okorodudu, Warri North Local Government Chairman. At Igbogene, the items were received by Hon. Angus Didei on behalf of the Bayelsa State Emergency Relief Committee.

Explaining the reason for the donations,Esimaje Brikinn, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) represented by Tony Emegere, PGPA superintendent, said: “This donation is in line with the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture’s commitment and our tradition of care for the welfare of people around our areas of operation in Nigeria and beyond.  As we donate these items today, I hope that they will assist in meeting the needs of the people,” he said.

At all the donation venues, the officials thanked Chevron Management for coming to the aid of the flood victims with food gift items in support the effort of State and Federal Governments. The Secretary of the Warri North Council, V. A. German, who received the items on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, Amb. Aduge Okorodudu expressed his gratitude to Chevron for its immerse contribution. He stated that the items supplied, will provide succor to the victims.

 

Similarly, Mrs. Gabari of Warri South West LGA promised that the donated items will form part of the recovery package given to the IDPs to help them get settled back in their homes as they vacate the IDP camps.

Brikinn expatiated that the Joint Venture has also partnered with Delta and Bayelsa states on projects in the areas of education, health and economic development. “We are happy that this partnership has led to improvements in the people’s quality of life. We are proud to be partners in progress with Delta State Government.” He said.

 The handing over of the donated items, comprising mattresses, bags of rice, beans, gari, salt, kegs of palm oil, cartons of vegetable oil, detergent, tissue paper, and other essential supplies in Warri North and Warri South West, was witnessed by representatives of the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee and the Egbema Gbaramatu Community Development Foundation respectively.
