Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the NNPC/CNL Joint Venture, has restated its commitment toward developing a sustainable Local Content in the country’s oil and gas sector.

The renewed commitment is coming as the oil giant received an award for sustained support for small businesses in Nigeria during the 4th edition of the Sub-Sahara Africa Upstream Oil and Gas summit and exhibition which held in Abuja recently. The Summit was organized by Zenith Professional Training Limited.

The award was presented to CNL at a dinner event organized at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and witnessed by many dignitaries including representatives of the NNPC/industry regulators, community  representatives  from the  Niger Delta  region   and  participants  from  other  African countries and other industry players.

General Manager, Nigerian Content Development (NCD), Ms. Anike Odunlami, received the award   on   behalf   of   Chevron   companies   in   Nigeria.     It   was   presented   by   Engr.   Emmanuel Akinsanya,   the  Executive   Director,  Asset   Management   &   Technical   Services,   Nigerian   Gas Marketing Company Limited (a subsidiary of the NNPC).

Speaking on the award,  Ms. Odunlami  noted that  Chevron is committed to Nigerian Content Development (NCD) as part of the company’s commitment to local capacity building in the nation’s oil and gas industry by empowering Nigerian service providers and suppliers through human and business capacity development, local patronage, work scope reservation and fostering of business partnerships.

She also stated that CNL consistently reserves significant portions of job scopes to benefit local community contractors from its areas of operation adding that CNL also has a strong focus on maintaining compliance in job awards to Nigerian contractors on its small, medium and major capital projects.  According to her, this is achieved through a standard operating procedure (SOP) to   ensure   equitable   participation   of   community   contractors   through   CNL’s   robust   Local

Community Content (LCC) policy.

Also,   the   General   Manager,   Policy,   Government   and   Public   Affairs,   (PGPA),   Mr.   Esimaje Brikinn   highlighted   the   attendant   benefits   of   the   LCC   SOP   which   includes   that   CNL’s preferential selection and work scope reservation ensures patronage of indigenous companies; and that the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) with the respective communities is utilized to extend available business opportunities to the Local Community Contractors around CNL’s areas of operation.
