The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, has denied a publication by Online Media especially The Cable, headlined, “If Sowore is charged , Buhari will be my first Witness in Court” of August 6, 2019, and purported to have been made at an event of the Institute by Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana.

The Institute considered the publication as capable of misleading the members of the Public.

Reacting to the publication in a statement made available to Oriental News Nigeria, the Institute denied organizing any function on the said day for which  Falana was invited and could not have made such a statement.

“It is unfortunate that credible media organizations did not ascertain their facts on the platform at which Mr. Falana made the statement.

For the records, we will like to state categorically that the event was the Launch of the Book “Why Not” authored by Prof. Pat Utomi which was held at one of the rented facilities of the Institute.

Meanwhile, we will like to acknowledge that the Newspaper Publications have true accounts of the event in their edition of today August 7, 2019.

We found it necessary to correct the erroneous impression created by this misleading publication to assure thousands of our members and stakeholders that the Institute has not abandoned its role as a Self-Regulating Organization in the Banking Industry.” the statement said.
