The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), has reiterated its commitment to manpower development in the insurance sector as part of its contribution to industry development.
This commitment is coming as the Institute announced a line up of activities to commemorate its 60th anniversary.
Speaking in Lagos, President of the Institute, Mr. Eddie Efekoha, stated that the anniversary celebration, provides all stakeholders of the Institute and the insurance industry, an opportunity to reflect on the history of the Institute and equally embrace the Institute’s relevance in the insurance sector and the Nigerian economy.
He lauded the Institute’s commitment to its duty as the rallying point for insurance professionals in Nigeria while acknowledging the role of the founding fathers of the Institute. He said “it is clear to see that the Institute has come a long way from its early days where it was a tenant at St. Peters House in Marina. This can be traced to the vision and efforts of Past presidents before me and the commitment of all Insurance stakeholders. I continue to remain grateful to them for the work they have done and it is important that we build on their efforts for the growth to be continuous. Now, we are saddled with the task of setting new standards and identifying new international benchmarks in our task of propagating insurance and ensuring the Institute remains relevant to industry stakeholders nationally and internationally”.
The Director General of the Institute, Mr. Richard Borokini reiterated the President’s comments by stating that the Institute’s commitment to manpower development had not wavered over the years. In his words “We are consistently looking to expand the scope and quality of service through innovation in order to deliver real and added value to members of the Institute. We are passionate about providing qualitative insurance education to all members of the Institute just as we are also proud of the professionals we make of them.”
According to the Director General of the Institute, the anniversary celebration is billed to run from Friday, August 2nd, 2019 to Thursday 8th, 2019. The lined up of activities will kick off with a Jumat Service on the 2nd August at the Lagos State Central Mosque Alausa and the CIIN family Picnic on the 3rd of August at the Eleko beach. The Celebrations continue on the 5th of August with Charity visits to selected charity homes and there will be a symposium on the 6th of August at the Muson center themed “The Nigerian State and values: Need for Alignment”. There is Church Service scheduled for the All Saints Anglican Church on the 7th August and the week-long schedule of activities will come to a climax with a Gala Night and the launch of the Institute’s compendium on the 8th of August.
Efekoha urged all Insurance Stakeholders as well as key players in the Nigerian economy to join the Institute during the celebration. Mr. Eddie Efekoha thanked all stakeholders in the Insurance Industry in the country and urged every member of the Institute to continue to support the activities of the Institute in the years ahead.
The Insurance Institute of Nigeria was established in 1959 with the responsibility of determining the standards of knowledge and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become Insurance professionals in Nigeria. Through its activities, the Institute has served as a significant platform for the growth of the Insurance Industry in Nigeria.
