The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company ( SNEPCO) has sought collaboration of inventors to create smart solutions that will generate more and cleaner energy across the world.
The company said that the current energy is not enough to satisfy growing energy needs in Nigeria that’s why the company launched its makethefuture campaign.
The SNEPCO Human Resources Director, Obinna Anaba, who spoke at the first anniversary of Africa’s first kinetic solar powered pitch in Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, also said that the problem of electricity in Africa requires collaboration.
“We believe that working together will transform lives and bring more cleaner energy to communities. For #makethefuture, we collaborate with inventors ,local communities, engaged citizens and global celebrities to transform lives by putting bright energy ideas into action.
” Working together, we are turning gravity into light, coffee into energy, cooking oil into fuel, roadside turbulence into electricity, and footsteps and roofs into power sources. An example of our last initiative is the Lagos Kinetic Pitch with floodlights powered by energy from players’ footsteps on Pavegen tiles laid under the Astroturf pitch, ” he added.
He noted that Shell is celebrating one year of Africa’s first kinetic pitch as part of its makethefuture campaign and to challenge Nigerian youths on innovations and bright energy ideas that can help in the global quest for more and cleaner energy.
The registrar of Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, Mr. Henry Otoighile thanked Shell for citing the kinetic solar powered pitch in the school, adding that the school will continue to make good use of the pitch.
