The Group General Manager  of Continental Hotels Group, Karl Hala, has

shared an inspiring narrative of transformation for the Abuja Continental – formerly the Sheraton.

Hala, highlighted how the capital’s flagship property is being reimagined as a beacon of African luxury, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Hala spoke  with a clear mission: “We are investing in creating African hospitality at its best. “This promise is being fulfilled through a comprehensive redevelopment that includes a 2,500‑seat convention centre, a sprawling sports village, and upgraded wellness facilities that cater to the discerning traveller.

The new convention centre , he noted   is set to become the region’s premier venue for international conferences, government summits, and high‑profile exhibitions

“Between Abuja and Lagos, we aim to position ourselves as the signature of African hospitality, Hala told Forbes, underscoring the strategic importance of the capital’s political and business landscape.

He explained that Abuja’s sports village is another highlight, featuring tennis courts, pickleball facilities, and a cutting‑edge fitness centre. These amenities are designed to appeal to both corporate delegates seeking active retreats and leisure guests looking for a vibrant, health‑focused stay.

According to him , culinary excellence is being taken to new heights at the Abuja Continental. The hotel’s restaurants will offer a fusion of Nigerian heritage and global gastronomy, with menus curated by award‑winning chefs who champion locally sourced ingredients.

Guests , he pointed out can expect immersive dining experiences that celebrate the diversity of Nigeria’s culinary traditions.

The GGM informed that youth development remains a cornerstone of Continental’s corporate philosophy. The group’s Hospitality Academy, a collaborative effort with UNICEF, the Ministry of Communication, GIZ, and multiple embassies, is already enrolling its first cohort of trainees.

“We want to show there is a future in this industry, from entry‑level to leadership, “Hala affirms, noting that graduates will receive certifications recognised worldwide.

” Sustainability is a driving force behind the Abuja redevelopment. The property is transitioning to solar power, with plans to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption. In addition, the hotel is implementing water‑saving technologies and waste‑management programs that align with global green‑hotel standards.” he declared

Karl informed technology integration is enhancing every guest interaction. From mobile check‑in to personalized service via AI‑powered concierge platforms,

Continental Hotels Group, he explained  is ensuring that the Abuja Continental delivers a seamless, future‑focused experience. “We are rethinking everything from energy to mobile touchpoints, ”

Local sourcing , he noted s a priority that fuels both the economy and authenticity with the  hotel  committment to procuring a majority of its food, beverages, and décor from Nigerian farmers, artisans, and manufacturers, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to community support.

The Forbes interview paints a picture of a hotel group that is not only upgrading its physical footprint but also shaping the future of Nigeria’s hospitality industry. By championing youth talent, sustainable practices, and world‑class facilities, Continental Hotels Group is setting a new standard for luxury in Abuja.

Karl  concludes with a powerful vision: “Nigeria connects to the world, and the world connects here. “With the Abuja Continental leading this charge, the capital is set to become a leading hospitality hub across Africa, and Continental Hotels Group is proud to be the architect of that legacy.
