 Court Remands Man In Prison For Assaulting Eko Disco Workers

A 52-year old man, Isreal Olayinka, has been remanded at the  Kirikiri Maximum Prisons for not being able to perfect his N600,000 bail application.

Olayinka was arraigned for allegedly assaulting workers of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company while on  their official duty.

General Manager, Corporate Communications,  of Eko Disco, Idemudia Godwin, explained that Olayinka was arraigned on a 4-count charge of conspiracy, assault, felony and violence before Magistrate Y.O Aji-Afunwa of the Samuel Ilori Magistrates Court, Ogba and pleaded not guilty of all charges.

The court granted the accused  a bail in the sum of N600,000, two sureties with evidence of Lagos tax payment and verified property address.

She said both sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government, as part of the bail conditions and have their addresses verified by the Court.

The prosecutor, Supol Peter Nwango told the court that sometime in 2018 the accused and others at large vadalised a Mitsubishi car with registration number BDJ 608 XR belonging to EKEDC around Gaskiya Road , Ijora, Badia in Apapa Local Government.

Nwango said they assaulted Mr Ajibola Mathew and Segun Ogunyemi who were staff of the Eko Disco.

Nwango said that the accused, Olayinka and others at large who ran away after committing the offenses were arrested by the Police from their hideout and brought to court.

He said they conspired  to commit conducts likely to cause beach of peace, assault occasioned by harm and willful damaged EKEDC’s property.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused were fond of igniting violent protest.

He said that the offense was punishable under section 350, 174(E), 168 (1)(d) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The case was adjourned till August 15 for mention.
