An aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly tested positive to the dreaded coronavirus.
The development was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire on Thursday but declined to disclose the identity of the infected aide.
Though, he revealed that the aide was not in a critical condition.
Ehanire stated that the aide had been moved to an isolation centre for the treatment of people with mild symptoms of coronavirus.
“An aide to the President that tested positive for coronavirus is in a secure place somewhere. Those with severe symptoms of the virus are taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (isolation facility). Others will be taken to a facility where they can be taken care of.
“The (Presidential) aide who tested positive is receiving treatment in a secure facility in Nigeria. He requires only a general medical treatment.”
The Health Minister disclosed this while delivering an update on the coronavirus situation in Abuja.
There have been increased concerns as to the state of the President’s health among Nigerians; after it emerged that his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari had tested positive to the coronavirus.
Kyari, recently returned to Nigeria from a trip to Germany. The development had sparked fears that the President may have been exposed to the virus.
However, tests conducted on Buhari and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo had returned negative.
