Over two hundred widows have been presented with food items, Hand Sanitizers, and other relief materials by the Naval Officers Wives Association of Nigeria (NOWA), to help them pull throughout the lockdown initiated by the Federal Government as a measure to curtail the spread of COVID- 19.

The National President of the  Association, Mrs. Theresa Ibas, made this known while presenting the relief materials to the widows, in Lagos.

Mrs. Ibas said the essence of the programme was to bring succour to the widows of the fallen heroes in order to cushion the effect of the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

She further described the period of the pandemic as a difficult time for the widows, especially without their husbands who were the breadwinners, said the period had prevented the widows from engaging in their small businesses due to the lockdown.

The NOWA National President pointed out that as a none governmental organization,  NOWA was ready and willing to positively assist its own, especially at this tough period.

Mrs Theresa Ibas,  who pointed out that though it was not easy for some of the widows who had been surviving on their petty businesses on daily basis to stay indoors and idle, encouraged them to use the relief materials to tide over the period of the lockdown.

Three widows who gave their names as, Mrs. Pricillia Okechukwu, Mrs. Victoria Elegbeleye and Mrs. Esther Omokwale, thanked the National President of Nowa for remembering them in this period of difficulty, adding that since they lost their husbands, the association had been there for them.

Mrs. Theresa Ibas said the kind gesture would be extended to wives of their fallen in other states across the country, to help cushion the effect of the lockdown order by the government to halt the spread of the Coronavirus disease.
