The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has congratulated the former Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni on his recent appointment as the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Oyo State Governor.
In a press statement signed by the Secretary Human Interest Committee of CRAN, Frank Oshanugo, the Association expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Governor for painstakingly making a choice in the person of Owoseni; a tested crime fighter and pragmatic cop among many others whose political affiliation to the governor may have given some advantage over and above him.
In the light of this, CRAN has declared that “former Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni is a square peg in a square hole.”
The Association has therefore charged the former police boss to bring his wealth of experience as a time-tested security and law enforcement officer to bear on his new position particularly at this period when every state in Nigeria is facing the challenge of insecurity.
The Association further charged Owoseni not to allow politicians who have the tendency for primitive accumulation to steer him away from the Spartan life style he has been known for, over the years.
It will be recalled that Owoseni was among the senior police officers who were officially pulled out from the Nigeria Police Force less than a year ago following his statutory retirement after over three decades of meritorious service to Nigeria.
Prior to his retirement, he served briefly as the police commissioner in charge of Benue State following his redeployment from Lagos State where he fought kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers and other criminal elements.
